THE 2017 World Pitmasters Cup-Master Breeder Edition 2 culminated with a four-way championship tie with teams garnering eight points each during the 4-stag grand finals held on Nov. 25 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila.
Emerging as co-champions were R Star RJM (RJ Mea, Boyet and Grace Sison), Hilicapvilli (Larry Villacorte), San Roque BB2 (Joey and Buboy Delso Santos; Muroy Dolorico) and Lieteros VMP San Isidro (Glenn Adao and Vladimir Palis) who will split the guaranteed Php15,000,000 prize purse for the derby.
Organized by businessmen and cockfighting aficionados Charlie “Atong” Ang, Gerry Ramos, Engr. Sonny Lagon, Governor Eddiebong Plaza and RJ Mea, with assistance from Eric Dela Rosa and Ka Lando Luzong, this year’s Master Breeders Edition featured some of the best breeders and handlers in the country with over 300 entries vying for the top prize.
Leading the way in showcasing the best stags and champion local breeders in the country, the World Pitmasters Cup staged four topnotch derbies this year in RWM with the 9-cock International Derby in January, the Fiesta Edition in May, and the 9-stag Master Breeder Edition 1 and 2 in September and November respectively.
“The venue is totally different from your ordinary ‘sabungan’. It counts for a lot along with the quality of the fights because it offers hotels, a shopping mall, restaurants—places where our participants can also bring their families and enjoy the facilities,” said organizer and businessman Gerry Ramos.
