FOR Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco to quit or give up his post,  heads of national sports association must be convinced to cast a vote of no-confidence on him.

And that is what a group calling for the Cojuangco’s ouster will seek when they hold a rally on Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Vito Cruz, Manila.

“Not even a miracle can make Peping resign from the POC. But we want him to get out for two reasons,” said former Philippines Sports Commission chairman Aparicio Mequi.

Mequi, who is part of the Sept. 21 Movement for Peace and Change in Philippine Sports,  explained that they are first seeking Cojuangco’s ouster after the performance of Filipino athletes in international meets steadily declined.

This is based on the Philippines’ overall performance in successive Southeast Asian Games.

Second reason for wanting his ouster is poor governance. Mequi said this manifested by unliquidated financial assistance of many NSAs.

The former PSC chief said that it will be up to the POC general assembly to boot Cojuangco.

And during the rally, his group will make an appeal to members of the NSAs to seek a vote of no-confidence on Cojuangco.

Mequi said they hope many NSA leaders would come and support their cause on that day

The group, which appears to have the support of  PSC Commissioner  Ramon Fernandez, is expected to come in force on Thursday.
