Adamson nears UAAP crown

ADAMSON University goes for the jugular against University of Santo Tomas in the UAAP Season 79 softball championship series  today at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

With the possibility of Tigresses pitcher Mary Ann Antolihao missing Game 2 due to a knee injury, Lady Falcons coach Ana Santiago is not taking their beleaguered foes lightly in the 8 a.m. clash.

“Ako naman, from the start, ang main woman nila ay si Antolihao,” said Santiago.

“But we’re not looking for that one player only. We’re looking at them as a whole. It doesn’t mean na pag mag-preprepare kami kay Ann, hindi kami nag-prepare for their other pitchers,” she said.

Ateneo tries to capture its fourth baseball crown in five years as it clashes with UST in Game 2 slated at 12 noon.

Both games will be aired live on S+A HD Channel 166.

Gunning for a seven-peat and a record 16th championship, the Lady Falcons carved out a 9-2 win over the Tigresses in last Tuesday’s opener.

UST coach Sandy Barredo is expected to start Mallows Garde in case Antolihao can’t make it.

Once pitcher Lyca Basa clicked and their hitting goes off the charts, Adamson is tough to beat.

The Blue Eagles, meanwhile, pounced on the Growling Tigers’ inexperience to fashion out a 9-2 victory in Game 1.

While Ateneo coach Randy Dizer is hoping for his troops to get the job done and bounce back from last season’s Finals loss to bitter rival La Salle, UST mentor Jeffrey Santiago is looking forward for his wards to learn the lessons of last Tuesday’s setback and send the series to a decider next week.
