INCENTIVES have doubled for the local government units which will excel in the Philippine National will which will be revived later this year.

The winning LGU will now receive P10-million, instead of the P5-million that was originally pledged by the  Philippine Sports Commission.

Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said this while he had a meeting with heads of LGUs in the Southern Tagalog Region in Lipa City, Batangas.

The meeting was part of the sports caravan that the PSC is holding for LGUs in the Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions.

“Gusto natin na maibalik naman sa kanila ang sapat na insentibo para sa kanilang paghahanda at pagtulong sa mga atleta,” said Ramirez, who was there with commissioners Ramon Fernandez and Celia Kiram.

The P10-million incentive is part of the PSC’s plan to give cash prizes to the top 10 LGUs in the PNG.

The runner-up gets P9 million, while the third placer gets P8 million while the fourth placing delegation will have P7 million.

Earlier, the agency said it will provide the needed funding so that interested LGUs can develop their own grassroots development programs.

The funds will be made available once the  formation of the National Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council is finished.

“This is an avenue for their sports program that we can support also,” said Abarquez.
