LEAGUE-LEADING San Miguel Beer looks to tighten its grip on the top spot and move closer to securing the top seeding in the resumption of the 2018 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup.

The Beermen (7-2) can move closer to securing the no. 1 seed or a top two finish with another win as it will be heavily favored against already ousted Kia (1-9) in their 4:30 p.m. tiff at the Smart Araneta Coliseum today.

Currently, San Miguel Beer is half-a-game ahead of Magnolia (7-3) for first place and it can extend its lead to a full game if it takes its second straight win.

Clearly, the Beermen know what they are chasing after.

“Our goal is to finish in the Top 2 and this next game will help us a lot to get there,” said San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria.

The Beermen muscled their way to a statement 109-96 drubbing of Alaska last Saturday in Batangas.

On the contrary, the Picanto suffered its fifth straight loss at the hands of  GlobalPort, 108-91, just last Wednesday.

In the nightcap, a critical tussle takes place as Alaska (6-4) and Rain or Shine (5-3) collide at 7 p.m.

The Aces, currently in fifth, are already through to the quarterfinals but want to bid for the highest possible finish they can get.

The Elasto Painters still need one more win to formalize their entry into the Top 8.

A loss for Rain or Shine will put it in the danger zone in a snap.

The Elasto Painters are the hotter team coming in, having won three in a row while the Aces have dropped two straight after racking up six in a row.
