Inaugural NBA Awards Show airs on Sports + Action

FOR the first time, fans of the National Basketball Association will see their favorite players hoist their individual awards trophies not inside the court during the Playoffs, but in a grand awarding ceremony at the inaugural “NBA Awards Show,” which will be aired LIVE on S+A on free TV and on S+A HD on SKYcable this Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Hosted by hip-hop superstar Drake, the “NBA Awards Show” will fete players for their standout individual performances with awards including the Kia NBA Sixth Man for the best sub, Kia NBA Most Improved Player, Kia Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year (ROY), and the most coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the player with the best overall performance in the 2016-2017 regular season. Another featured award is Coach of the Year.

Nominees for MVP are Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs, James Harden of Houston Rockets, and Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City Thunder. For ROY, nominees are Malcolm Brogdon of the Milwaukee Bucks, and teammates Joel Embiid and Dario Saric of the Philadelphia 76ers. Battling for the Sixth Man award are teammates Eric Gordon and Lou Williams of the Houston Rockets and the Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala.  

For the Most Improved Player award, nominees are Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee Bucks, Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, and Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, who is also contending for the Defensive Player of the Year award against Leonard of the Spurs, and Draymond Green of the Warriors.

Meanwhile, up for Coach of the Year award are Mike D’Antoni of the Houston Rockets, Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, and Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat.
