Your childhood would never be as memorable as it is today if you didn’t get to curl yourself in the blanket, watching movies as you hear your parents shuffling busily as they start to prepare Noche Buena or Media Noche.

Timeless holiday flicks
Piolo Pascual and Donita Rose in the 2002 movie, '9 Mornings.'

While the western kids have Harry Potter to sustain their curious imagination on wizards and witches, Filipino kids have Enteng Kabisote to make their fantasies real about fairies and goblins.

From the very first film, (Okay ka, Fairy Ko) until the last one (Enteng Kabisote 10 and the Abangers) where things got more advanced and innovative, we still witnessed on how Enteng, a human who married a fairy managed to surpass all the troubles to triumph, defeat Ina Magenta; the evil fairy and live happily with his family.

Celebrating the pride of motherhood, who would not love Ang Tanging Ina Mo? AiAi Delas Alas proved that it only takes a good mixture of comedy and drama to make our perspective of Christmas more sentimental, and fun at the same time. Every scene and dialogue hit definitely close to home.

And if you ever watched Puso ng Pasko, we guess you once believed that the spirit of Christmas was truly amazing. The fantasy comedy film showed us that as long as the love for family is there, Christmas is still worth celebrating.

Jolina Magdangal, who played the elf who grants Dondi and his siblings’ wishes, was the wake-up call to the characters that the spirit of Christmas is not just strong, but is indeed real.

And who says Christmas themed movie film of Filipinos must always be a fantasy? Vice Ganda’s Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy was a hit not only because of the lead star’s iconic lines, but also the message the movie wanted to impart. The movie never failed to emphasize the equality between all genders, thus being loved by someone truly is not a fairytale, but a wonderful reality.

Then, we have 9 Mornings. Probably one of the most memorable Christmas movies that stars Piolo Pascual, where his character teaches the audience on how to forget the past, and learn how to live again with its simple message that to give love and to receive love is the best way to heal someone’s wound.
