Three complete strangers find themselves embroiled in a veiled attempt to reunite them with their common past, a situation none of them is crazy about.
Bona Fajardo, the writer and director of romantic drama movies such as Iliw and I Found My Heart in Santa Fe, is back with another heart-warming movie in Kahit Ayaw Mo Na.
The film, which unspools at cinemas today, tells the story of three girls, Joey, Mikee, and Ally, who are all drawn to the beautiful province of Samar.
Joey (Empress Schuck), a designer, with her boyfriend Reggie (Daniel Matsunaga) is looking for a local start-up business which takes them to Samar, hometown of Edlyn (Desiree Del Valle), who runs a banig weaving business with her partner Dong (Alan Paule). Further, Dong announces their wedding and asks for Joey’s help. But Joey is not a big fan of weddings. Her contempt for serious relationships stems from her mother’s own ordeal. She grew up resenting her father.
Meanwhile, Mikee (Kristel Fulgar), a food and travel vlogger, together with her friend Jiro (Kuya Sawa), meets Tupe (Neil Coleta). Tupe helps her feature Samar’s Secret Kitchens – well-guarded family recipes of Dong’s Nanay Caridad. Mikee is a wandering soul and will never stay in one place. Like Joey, she grew up not knowing her father. She maybe searching for something and she doesn’t know what it is, but it’s definitely not the father who left the house.
Ally (Andrea Brillantes), an aspiring composer is very fond of her father Dong. She immerses herself in music. Her inspiration is her long-suffering affection for Tupe. What begins as an unrequited love turns worse when Mikee enters the picture. She nonetheless finds a willing friend in Jiro, whom Mikee neglected on her real purpose in Samar when she met the local tour guide, Paco (Karl Gabriel).
Wedding day arrives. Dong is the man of the hour. During the reception, everyone gets taken aback with his revelation that he’s the unknown father to Joey and Mikee, and that he is finally doing penance for his sins in the past, for abandoning Joey and Mikee during his heydays.
What seemed to be an ordinary trip for Joey and Mikee turned out to be something more than they presume. When the missing pieces are finally set in its proper places, can the spark of blood kick in and erase what transpired before?
