So the ratings war between the Kapuso and Kapamilya networks is a never-ending story with each of them claiming leadership, but of course each claim is based on each other’s favored survey entity.

In January, GMA Network claimed triumph as it said, based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, it posted a strong start for 2018 in the nationwide television ratings competition securing the top spot anew.

For the full month of January (with Jan.21 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA registered winning numbers in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) with an average of 43.7 percent total day people audience  share, beating ABS-CBN’s 38.6 percent.

The Kapuso Network reigned supreme across all day parts in NUTAM. In the morning block, GMA recorded a 42.3 percent people audience share versus ABS-CBN’s 35.4 percent.

'My Korean jagiya,' which stars Heart Evangelista (center) was one of the top-rating Kapuso shows in January.

GMA’s afternoon line-up, which garnered 47.3 percent, was way ahead of rival network’s 36.8 percent.

Continuing well into the evening block, the Network maintained a leading share of 41.5 percent as against competition’s 41.2 percent.

The Kapuso Network similarly dominated all time blocks with bigger margins in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 76 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country.

In Urban Luzon, GMA registered a total day people audience share of 49.2 percent, besting ABS-CBN’s 32 percent.

Likewise in Mega Manila (with official data from Jan. 1 to 20), the Kapuso Network upheld its strong showing with 51.9 percent total day people audience share while ABS-CBN only managed to get 28.5 percent.

Well, ABS-CBN has a different story altogether. And its ratings provider seems to be giving the network different figures allowing the network to claim leadership as well.

A new love team is making Kapamilya audience thrills as teen stars Loisa Andalio and Ronnie Alonte teach viewers the importance of humility and sacrifice in “Wansapanataym Presents: Gelli in a Bottle (Sunday nights, 6:30 p.m.).

Gelli (Loisa), a young lady often ridiculed for her physical appearance finds a way to make herself beautiful through a genie who she summons from a magical bottle.

However, not content with having only three wishes, Gelli wishes to be as powerful as the genie so she could have all her desires as she pleases. Her wish of becoming powerful gets granted, but to her surprise, she gets locked inside the magical bottle and can only escape once a person wishes for her freedom — just like a genie.

With the spell cast on her, she meets Robin (Ronnie), a young man who luckily finds the magical bottle along the street. Believing that he is the person who will set her free, Gelli demands Robin to spend his last wish on her to bring her back to normal. But her inherent selfishness makes Robin mad, pushing him to resist Gelli’s plea.

This is an interesting drama that should make young ambitious women think twice before wishing anything for their own selfish gains.
