The story of a person torn between two lovers is not particularly fresh, but the pairing of Derek Ramsay and Andrea Torres in The Better Woman is.
Billed as a series “to heat up your rainy night,” the drama introduces the much-awaited team up and their daring scenes, which Derek refers as “something he hasn’t done on the small screen.”
“You’ve seen me in the movies doing some intimate scenes with my onscreen partner. But this is the first time that I’m going to do something like that on television. So, I guess that’s something new for me,” the actor who was recently welcomed in the Kapuso lot told the press during the grand media conference held on Thursday.
This is Derek’s first soap as a Kapuso and after months of teasing about the project, he is looking forward to everyone finally watching what they’ve been working on.
“I’m really excited about this project. Hope all the viewers will enjoy the show. It’s been tough doing it but it’s definitely worth it,” he said.
The series, which premieres on primetime tomorrow night, centers on the story of a happily married couple Andrew (Derek) and Jasmine (Andrea). They live and own a surf resort in La Union.
Their seemingly perfect life crumbles when Andrew flies to Manila for a business trip. He crosses path with Jasmine’s long-lost twin sister Juliet a.k.a. Elaine who works as an exotic pole dancer.
When Juliet reconciles with her estranged biological family and resides with her sister, a forbidden love affair between her and Andrew ensues behind Jasmine’s back.
The series asks the question: Who is more deserving to be called the better woman–the prim Jasmine or the seductive Juliet? Who is worthier of Andrew’s love?
Also starring in the series is award-winning actress Jaclyn Jose as Erlinda Santos, Jasmine and Juliet’s devoted mother who is always forgiving of Juliet’s wrongdoings; together with Ina Feleo as Angela de Villa Castro, Andrew’s younger sister who is a single mother; Marco Alcaraz as Glenn Santiago, Andrew’s business partner who is equally well-off; Ashley Rivera as Chesi Rodriguez, Juliet’s friend and housemate; Paolo Paraiso as Joross Baltazar, a surfer and Andrew’s close friend who secretly desires Juliet; and Francis Makil as Amy Santos, the estranged cousin of Erlinda who knows her secret.
The show’s creative team is composed of creative director Aloy Adlawan, creative head Suzette Doctolero, creative consultant Agnes Uligan, concept creator, and headwriter Angeli Delgado, writers Ana Aleta Nadela, Loi Argel Nova, Erwin Bravo, and brainstormer Rodney Julio.
Under the helm of esteemed Mark Sicat dela Cruz, The Better Woman airs after Sahaya on GMA Telebabad.

Herbert’s legacy
In a statement sent to the media, it indicates that outgoing Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista’s office has left ample funds for the next administration to start with.
The cash position of the Quezon City Government under Herbert, as of June 15, indicates the total amount of P26, 274,036, 108 as cash-on-hand and in-bank as well as investments.
This figure has been validated by the City Government’s various depository banks, which include Land Bank of the Philippines, Quezon City Hall branch, Overseas Filipino Bank, and Development Bank of the Philippines, Heart Center branch.
The statement also says that for the 2019 budget of the Quezon City Government, more than P6 billion is still collectible from the following sources: real estate tax, business tax, community tax, socialized housing program, internal revenue allotment, and other regulatory fees.
