TV and movie star Kim Chiu, who is best known for her girl-next-door roles in drama and romcom, is out of her comfort zone as she ditched her demure image in Regal Entertainment’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry, One Great Love.
In the Rated PG movie, Kim is seen in three love scenes: with JC de Vera in the bbedroomand on a yacht while in the bath tub; and one before the fireplace with Dennis Trillo.
Talking about her steamy scenes, the actress said, “I’m leaving it to the audience, I hope they will like it. But I’m feeling a little shy about it but I only did what the script was asking for.”
“In the future, if there will be offers, which would require me to do scenes like that, as long as it’s in the script and the story is really good, I would still do it,” she told some showbiz press during the press premiere of the film, and added that she is all for content-driven stories
On winning an award at the MMFF, Kim said that she likes the film to do well in the box office rather than being recognized for her role.
“It sounds selfish if I’d wish to just win an award for this film, what I am really hoping for is for the film to earn during the festival. It will benefit all the people who worked hard for this movie,” she said.
In the movie, the 28-year-old actress plays the role of Zyra Paez who has had a failed relationship with Carl Mauricio (JC). In the movie, the viewers will see Kim’s character getting torn between two men, faced with a difficult decision that needs to be made: will she go for the one who’s been with her from ups and downs or will she follow what her heart tells her to do?
“The movie aims to shed led on this question: how will you know when the person you are with is your one great love. It intends to help the viewers understand what one is willing to do and the sacrifices that he is willing to take to be with someone whom he considers as his one great love,” she shared in Tagalog.
JC is Carl Mauricio, who is Zyra’s one great love. However, because of Carl’s turbulent past, he unintentionally keeps hurting the woman he loves.
Dennis is lan Arcano, Zyra’s dependable friend, who eventually falls in love with her.
These three lives are intertwined in a story that reveals to us that like all human beings, we all seek for love, no matter how differently everyone sees it.
One Great Love introduces us a number of characters, to which at least one of them we could relate to.
The film also stars Eric Quizon (who is also the director of the film) portraying Dante Paez, Zyra’s loving father, who never got over his one great love, discovers that he deserves a second chance at love. Nina Dolino plays Annie Paez, Dante’s second wife, who is a firm believer that one great love does exist. Miles Ocampo is Jemi Paez, sister of Zyra, who is mature for her age. She is a practical thinker, who challenges Zyra’s view about love. Marlo Mortel is Bryan Gomez, a loving free-spirited guy who falls in love with Jemi.
The Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) gave the film an impressive Grade B, the second-highest rating given to a film by the board. The CEB evaluates and grades films mainly based on its quality.
One Great Love opened on Christmas Day as an entry to the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival.
