Estrada said the alliance was a big step toward achieving his goal of making Manila a “great city” that would benefit everyone.

Duterte-Carpio’s party HNP and Estrada’s PMP signed the alliance at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila, on Monday  to bring what they described as democratic changes in accordance with the peoples’ will.

“The alliance that we form recognizes our intention to cooperate and unite on behalf of our parties for the benefit of all,” Estrada said.

The former President, who is running for his third and last term in office, said the alliance went beyond self-interest to serve the public.

Estrada said the partnership would make Manila as peaceful and drug-free as Davao.

“I believe that every Filipino has the right to live happy, safe and with dignity. It is my fervent hope to give every Filipino the hope of living peacefully,” he said.

Duterte-Carpio said she was going around the country to look for friends who would help Rodrigo Duterte in his remaining three years as President.

Among those who attended the signing were Estrada’s running mate and former Manila 5th District Rep. Amado Bagatsing,  former Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque; former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile; Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Zajid Dong Mangudadatu; Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos; former Senator Jinggoy Estrada; Senator Sonny Angara and former Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino.
