THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said Monday it plans to ban compact cars and hatchback vehicles for transport network vehicle services such as Grab and Uber.

Aileen Lizada, an LTFRB board member, said the agency had vetoed 2000-cc-rated vehicles as part of the new requirement.

Based on the Department of Transportation’s Department Order 2015-011, an accepted vehicle type for TNVS should be a sedan, an Asian utility vehicle, a sport utility vehicle, a van, an SUV or similar vehicles.

“We follow a standard for all vehicles, such as Sedan, as long as these are 200-cc rated. For safety regulations, these are the technical requirements being complied by taxis,” Lizada said.

In addition, a vehicle must not be over three years old from the date of manufacture as reflected in the official receipt or registration receipt.     And the maximum age limit of the vehicle is seven years from the date of manufacture as reflected in the official or registration receipt.

There is no engine displacement requirement for a TNVS vehicle, but the hatchback is not specified as an accepted vehicle type for a TNVS vehicle.
