WEATHERMEN hoisted Storm Signal no. 2 over the Batanes group of islands and Signal no. 1 over the Babuyan group of islands on Tuesday after forecasting tropical storm “Isang” will intensify and become a severe storm this week.

Isang was 170 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, and packing maximum sustained winds of 80 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 97 kph as of 5 p.m on Tuesday.

It was moving west-northwest at 15 kph.

Weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said the residents of the western section of Luzon and the Visayas must prepare for moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall as a result of Isang’s enhancement of the southwest monsoon.

Moderate to strong winds will blow from the northwest to the west over Central and Northern Luzon, and from the southwest over the rest of the country. With PNA
