1-RIDER party-list Rep. Rodge Gutierrez on Sunday called the public to practice proper garbage disposal.
The lawmaker said the proper disposal of wastes and garbage as one of the key solutions discussed during the meeting of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez with the national government’s line departments to talk about flood mitigation measures.
He said Romualdez and officials of the Departments of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Interior and Local
Government, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority have all agreed on a whole-of-nation approach to deal with the perennial problem of flooding.
“The takeaway of the meeting is that of a whole-of-nation approach. It doesn’t rely only on your national government. It cannot be solely relied on the programs and projects while we are anticipating, of course, the impending crises that come with floods,” he said.
“We also have to focus on the short-term preventive measures. And one of them is we need to have an information drive.,” he added.
The group meeting also focused on more synergy of government programs, especially on the effects of a looming La Niña episode.
“So, they communicated, discussed the measures for La Niña. All government projects they want more synergy,” he added.
“Short-, medium- and long-term (solutions) were discussed here. In the long term, this is definitely where the national government projects will come in. Here are the big-ticket items, for example, which is very important is the issue of Laguna de Bay,” he stressed.
