The Department of Agrarian Reform has installed more farmers in Negros Oriental in a 150-hectare land belonging to ex-senator Rene Espina under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program through compulsory acquisition.
Undersecretary for Field Operations Office Karlo Bello, along with Louie Naranjo, DAR’s lawyer-provincial program officer, recently installed 110 agrarian reform beneficiaries in Polo, Tanjay City.
“It is noteworthy, that the DAR installed the first batch of the agrarian reform beneficiaries on their awarded land, amidst resistance of the petitioners in July 2012,” the agency said.
Moreover, 11 qualified farmers were also installed in two landholdings totaling to 20.37 hectares in Abis and Manlingay, Mabinay.
Elvira Bation, provincial agrarian reform program officer, and Manuel Galon Jr. led the installation, followed by an open forum to remind farmer-beneficiaires of their responsibilities “now that they already own the land that they till,” DAR said.
