The Department of Transportation has urged the riding public to report jeepney drivers who will continue to charge a minimum fare of P10 even after the provisional P1 rollback ordered by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

“Because of the continuous rollback in the price of fuel, Secretary Arthur Tugade directed us to implement a motu propio fare decrease. We will implement that, and no fee shall be charged for a new fare matrix,” LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III said.

The motu proprio rollback covers the first four kilometers of jeepney routes for the National Capital Region and Regions 3 and 4.

The transportation department reported mounting complaints from commuters that jeepney drivers continue to charge P10 fare even after the LTFRB ordered the rollback of the minimum fare to P9 as prices of oil products stabilized.

The LTFRB encouraged the public to report abusive jeepney drivers by texting their vehicle plate numbers.

Overcharging drivers and operators may be fined P5,000 on the first offense, and P10,000 to P15,000 for succeeding offenses. Their licenses may also be revoked.

Petitions to raise minimum fares for UV Express, jeepneys, and city and provincial buses are still pending before the agency, said LTFRB member Aileen Lizada.
