Bello to labor execs: Report OFW complaints to me

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III has ordered labor attaches in all Philippine embassies abroad to inform him about urgent cases of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

He told them that reports must be relayed to him within 24 hours.

Bello specifically want to know cases involving abuses that OFWs suffer from the hands of their employers.

He warned that Philippine labor officials who will fail to inform him about the plight of distressed OFWs will be immediately recalled.

Bello has already recalled Philippine labor officials in Kuwait.

This is for allegedly failing to help Joanna Demafelis when her family sought their help and asked that the OFW be rescued.

Demafelis' body was found in a freezer in an abandoned apartment in the Gulf state.
