The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has started to issue subpoenas for personalities named in the complaint relating to the Dengvaxia controversy.
This is according to Attorney Manuelito Luna, who is connected with the group Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).
Luna and another lawyer, Nasser Marohomsalic, have also sought the help of the Department of Justice (DOJ) in securing the documents pertaining to the criminal cases they filed against officials of the Aquino administration for the alleged liability stemming from the Dengvaxia mess.
Last February 2, VACC and lawyer Francis Cruz submitted to the COMELEC complaint affidavits against Former President Noynoy Aquino, Former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad and Former Health Secretary Janette Garin.
They had charged that the government officials had violated the election ban on the use and release of public funds.
The complainants alleged that the Aquino and some of his cabinet officials had released and used P 3 billion in public funds for the National Immunization Program.
The funds were supposedly released and used on April 4, 2016, which is within the 45-day prohibition of the Omnibus Election Code against the release and use of government money.
The complainants had accused Aquino, Abad and Garin of releasing the funds for the purchase of the anti-dengue vaccine to help Liberal Party candidates run the election campaign.
