House probes hiring of IT consultant at SC

The House Committee on Justice is holding the 12th hearing on the impachment complaint against Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno.

Atty. Raul Villanueva, who is the chairman of the SC Bids and Awards Committee, is among the resource persons who are testifying.

The hearing is centering on the complaint of Attorney Lorenzo Gadon wherein Sereno allegedly hired an Information Technology (IT) consultant who received a very huge fee in 2014.

He is referring to IT consultant Helen Macasaet.

Macasaet allegedly received a fee of P 250,000 per month, higher than the monthly salary of SC Associate Justices whose monthly salary is P 132,000.

Villanueva said his involvement in the matter is just the approval for the negotiated procurement, under which the services of Macasaet was classified, but not the actual hiring of a consultant.

Villanueva said the selection of Macasaet was done by the SC Management Information Systems Office (MISO) and the Office of the Chief Justice.

The committee is sending an invitation letter to Macasaet so she can become a resource person in the next hearing.
