Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos is attending the hearing of the House Committee on Good Government on Tuesday.

Assisting her is Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, who is serving as her pro-bono legal counsel.

Imee’s mother, Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos, is also accompanying the governor in the hearing.

The probe is being done in view of Senate Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas’ resolution seeking an inquiry into the allegedly anomalous purchase of motor vehicles using excise tax shares amounting to P 66.45 million.

Marcos and Fariñas shook hands before the start of the proceeding.

In an interview, Enrile said, he is helping Imee as a gesture of appreciation to her late father, Former President Ferdinand Marcos.

The governor initially refused to attend the inquiry, concerned that she could be detained along with six other provincial staffmembers.

The staffmembers have been detained since May 29 after House members were not satisfied with their answers during the hearing.

The governor had labelled the issue as a ‘hostage crisis’ in the House of Representatives.
