The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has resumed its air strikes against the positions of the Maute group in Marawi City.

At least six areas are burning in the city on Tuesday morning.

Military operations are targetting four barangays in Marawi's commercial district that remain under the control of the terrorists.

These are barangays Bangolo, Lilod Madaya, Mapandi and Raya Madaya.

Over the weekend, there were reports that the Maute group was allegedly trying to negotiate the release of some of its hostages, including priest Chito Suganob.

This was supposedly in exchange for the release of the parents of Maute brothers who were previously arrested.

But Malacanang says, there are no talks ongoing with any emissary from Maute group.

During the press briefing in Malacanang on Tuesday morning, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella maintained "government does not negotiate with terrorists."
