Committee report on impeachment complaint up for plenary’s approval

The House Committee on Justice has approved the committee report that dismisses the impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.

It only took the committee about 20 minutes to hand down its ruling.

Committee Chairman Reynaldo Umali is set to submit the committee report to the plenary.

The document provides the basis for barring any new impeachment complaint against the Chief Executive for a period of one year.

The complaint filed by Magdalo Party-list Representative Gary Alejano was previously junked by the members of the Committee on Justice.

They cited Alejano’s lack of personal knowledge on extra-judicial killings allegedly perpetrated by Duterte as among the reasons for the dismissal of the case.
