AN ABU Sayyaf Group sub-leader and his lone follower, claiming they were terribly exhausted eluding military pressure, have surrendered to authorities, belated military reports said.

Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, identified the ASG sub-leader as Udon Hashim and his follower as Haidal Kimar, who gave themselves up to the military Monday at the vicinity of Barangay Jinggan, Panglima Estino, Sulu Monday.

Sobejana said the two surrendered two armalite rifles (M14 and M16) with four magazines for M16; three magazines for M14; 46 live ammunition for M16; 27 live bullets for M14 and 2 bandoliers.

The surrender, Sobejana said, was facilitated by Misbar Harun, barangay chairman of Jinggan through the efforts of the Task Force.

Quoting the declaration of the two ASG bandits during a military debriefing following their surrender, Sobejana said they were forced to surface as they were already severely exhausted eluding security forces hunting them down.

“They are already tired running. They are also disgusted with the manner being done by their members and the members are also disorganized and they don’t know what to do,” Sobejana said.

Sobejana disclosed that Hashim was a newly identified ASG henchman based in Panglima Estino and Pata Island under his fellow sub-leader Berham Lutian, who is closely associated with ASG hardliner Alhabsy Misaya.

Misaya, along with another ASG hardcore, Muamar Askhali, alias Abu Rami were killed in separate bloody fight with marine and army troops in Indanan, Sulu and Inabanga, Bohol, respectively, last month.

Reports said Hashim was instrumental in the delivery of fake ransom money relating to the release of three Malaysian kidnap victims that triggered infighting between ASG sub-leaders Lutian and Jamir Sawadjaan last March 26.

Sawadjaan and Lutian were reportedly planned to attack the group of Misaya and Hashim, who was spotted consolidating at Brgy Jinggan pertaining to the fake ransom money.

However, Misaya appealed to ASG top leader Radullan Sahiron to mediate for the settlement of the fake ransom money.

Reports said Sahiron then called Hatib Hajan Sawadjaan to pacify his nephew Jamir Sawadjaan.

Sobejana said Hashim was currently detained and undergoing further custodial debriefing at the headquarters of the Naval Intelligence Security Group at the Western Mindanao Command.
