‘Nonsense’ is how Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo describes Magdalo Partylist Representative Gary Alejano’s filing of a supplemental impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement, Panelo said, the case is “nonsense geared for propaganda and publicity for himself,” referring to the Alejano.

He also said, Alejano’s additional complaint may be legally flawed as it might constitute a second impeachment case against the President this year, which is banned by the Constitution.

Panelo remarked, “it may even be deemed to be a second impeachment case which is a prohibited complaint under the one-year prohibition limiting the filing to only one complaint in a year.”

Alejano submitted a supplemental impeachment complaint against President Duterte at the House of Representatives on Thursday morning.

The additional document cites the way the President is handling the the territorial disputes with China.

In the complaint, Alejano alleged that Duterte had “failed and refused to assert the exclusive sovereign rights of the Philippines over Benham Rise in the face of incursions of Chinese survey vessels in the area.”
