The University of the Philippines (UP) Department of Journalism on Thursday launched the second batch of its Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Project at the UP College of Mass Communication Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City.

Initiated in October 2023, the project previously produced a series of vlog tutorials and teacher’s modules on topics ranging from news literacy and production, to information disorder and fact-checking.

These featured seasoned journalists like Howie Severino, Atom Araullo, Zen Hernandez, Karmina Constantino, Connie Sison, Mariz Umali, Ivan Mayrina, Jeff Canoy, and UP Department of Journalism Chairperson Kara David.

The MIL Project’s second phase consists of five additional video tutorials on topics like data privacy, copyright and AI, online etiquette, internet scams, and algorithms.

The first of which, an episode that features Karen Davila and which tackles protecting personal data, has since been posted on the MIL Project’s YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, the other video lessons to be released involve David, Jay Taruc, Chiara Zambrano, and Ruth Cabal.

“What I am most proud of in this project is that the people who wrote the scripts for the media and information literacy vlog tutorials are students of the UP College of Mass Communication,” David said in a mix of English and Filipino.

The MIL Project was done in cooperation with UP CMC Foundation Inc., organized under the Initiative for Media Freedom (IMF), implemented by Internews, and funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
