Quezon City Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte on Sunday vowed to support the involvement of women in micro businesses.

Belmonte recently spearheaded the participation of women micro-entrepreneurs from impoverished communities in Quezon City to join indigenous craft producers at the Kabuhayan national livelihood trade fair organized by the Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc.

The female micro-entrepreneurs, many of whom came from the poorest barangays in Quezon City, were beneficiaries under the Lipad Pinay program, led by the vice mayor.

“We have always been supportive of the ventures of the women from our city. These micro-businesses are their way of earning extra income, expressing their talent and creativity, and empowering themselves,” she said.

“Many people don’t realize that, in Quezon City, majority of those taking micro-credit loans to start their business are women. They’re an unseen force of growth in our city that we have to keep cultivating,” Belmonte added.
