Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada has awarded land certificates to 111 families that have been illegally occupying privately owned lots in Canonigo St., Paco, Manila.
Estrada assured that more Manileños, especially the poor families, will be given lots under the Land for the Landless Program the city government has implemented since he assumed the mayoralty in 2013.
The Manila chief executive personally awarded certified true copies of City Tenants Security Committee, the city government’s land distribution program under Resolution No. 002-2018, adopting the Approved Subdivision Plan of property under PSD 079041.
The awardees are now legitimate owners of the land on Canonigo Street, which was formerly a property of the Philippine Columbian Association.
“The new land owners of Canonigo Estate may now call themselves true owners of the lot,” Estrada said during the awarding ceremony at the City Hall’s Bulwagang Villegas on Wednesday.
The lot was acquired on Oct. 2, 2008 by City Ordnance No. 7704 and adopted on June 27, 1989, at the cost of P23.2 million. The 4,842.90-square meter lot is in Barangay 824, Zone 89, Paco, Manila.
Estrada said the adoption of the subdivision plan by the CTSC will pave the way for the total development of the property, which had long been awaited by its residents.
He also congratulated the officers and members of Canonigo Homeowners Association as well as their Barangay Chairman Armando A. Tolentino of Barangay 824 Zone 89 for the untiring support in the city’s housing project in their jurisdiction.
Speaking before the new landowners, Estrada congratulated all the beneficiaries of the LLP in Canonigo Estates as well as their families for supporting his administration in pursuing its vision to give shelter to the city’s homeless.
Under the project, the awardees are given 20 to 30 years to pay for the lots at affordable rates.
Urban housing has been Estrada’s top priority since being elected mayor in 2013. He has also relocated thousands of informal settler families away from the city’s esteros and creeks in cooperation with the National Housing Authority and other concerned government agencies.
