Gap wraps up the season of giving with denim donations from its Recycle Your Blues campaign
Gap Philippines has received a total of 4,584 pairs of denim jeans collected from the Recycle Your Blues campaign. In Metro Manila alone, Gap received 3,649 pairs of donated denim jeans for adults and 187 pairs for kids. All collected denim jeans from Metro Manila were turned over to Pangarap Foundation, a beneficiary of Hands on Manila that provides community development programs for street children and their families. The denim jeans collected in Cebu and Davao were donated to International Care Ministries for their advocacy towards helping less fortunate families in southern Philippines.
Recycle Your Blues campaign
Recycle Your Blues was a nationwide denim drive campaign that invited everyone to donate any old pair of denim jeans at their nearest Gap store. Upon donation, participants received a 40 percent off voucher for their next denim purchase.
Hands On Manila, introduced and developed by the Hands On Network, was established in August 2001 as the pioneering Hands On Network affiliate in the Asia Pacific Region. Founded in 1992, the Hands on Network is an innovative alliance of volunteer organizations and has successfully implemented their method in various American cities. Their flexibility model for volunteer service allows members to incorporate volunteering into their day-to-day schedules.
Pangarap Foundation received all 3,649 denim donations from Metro Manila on Dec. 15, 2017 at their children’s shelter in Pasay City. The denim donations will be given to former male street children, who sought refuge in Pangarap Shelters and to families at Paliparan Site III in Dasmarines City in Cavite. Leah Lanzuela, executive director of the foundation, received the donations from Gap and surprised the Gap team with a dance performance from the kids of the Pangarap Shelter. Pangarap Foundation provides an all-boys’ shelter for former street children and works to address the children’s mental development, physiological, emotional, psycho-social, and spiritual needs. It provides three major intervention services: Caring Services (shelter, food, clothing, advocacy, legal, medical, and dental); Healing Services (social, psychological, psychiatric, and spiritual); and Teach Services (formal and non-formal education). Pangarap Foundation also has its
outreach community in Paliparan, Dasmariñas where it has started a community development program that helps over 45,000 former informal dwellers of Metro Manila. The development program helps sustain the recovery of the street children who were reconciled with their families and to prevent others from ending up back on the streets.
International Care Ministries (ICM) received 748 pairs of jeans from Gap Davao and Cebu, which will be given to families suffering from severe poverty in nearby communities. ICM is a Christian organization has been serving the less fortunate families in the Philippines since 1992. In partnership with community leaders from thousands of slum communities, ICM delivers programs that transform the lives of more than 100,000 destitute people each year believing that no one should live in abject poverty. ICM currently operates in ten locations throughout the central and southern Philippines including Davao, Cebu, General Santos, and Dipolog.
