Broadcast company ABS-CBN Corp. said Friday the estafa case filed by Solar Entertainment Corp. against its executives has no legal basis.

“The case is related to the civil case for damages filed by Solar against ABS-CBN in connection with their joint license agreement for the NBA games,” ABS-CBN said.

The case was filed with the Office of the City Prosecutor of Makati City.

“ABS-CBN believes that the criminal complaint, like the civil complaint, has no legal and factual basis, and is being used as a tool for harassment,” it said.

ABS-CBN said it would take appropriate legal action to hold Solar responsible for the unfounded allegation.  Solar has the exclusive rights to air NBA games in the Philippines since 2010.

Solar allowed ABS-CBN in 2014 to be a part of the joint license agreement with NBA for limited airing rights, including the right to air NBA games on its free-TV channels.

Solar stopped its NBA feeds to Sky Cable in April, after several unheeded demand letters and realizing that Sky Cable was intent on not paying.

Cable providers Cignal, GSAT and Dream still carry Solar’s channels.
