DAVAO CITY—Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday said she expects there will be no more terror acts in the city after the graduation of 85 Cafgu (Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Units) Active Auxiliary 2 trainees under the command of Task Force Davao.

Duterte said the main job of the new graduates is to ensure the city is safe from any terror attack.

She said she understands the new graduates “will have to sacrifice a lot of things” to make sure that Davao City is free from any form of terrorism, including their own families.

“Your role is very difficult, you have to stay under the sun and pouring rain, you may even skip your meals sometimes, and sometimes you cannot sleep, but you have to do it for our children, for your children, so that they can reach their schools peacefully,” the mayor said.

“In exchange for your lack of sleep and skipping some meals, every Davaoeño can sleep soundly at night, and I want you to know that we appreciate what you do for our city,” she said.

The new members of Task Force Davao will be deployed in the three major points in and out of the city, providing additional manpower and stricter checkpoint operation.

Task Force Davao Commander Col. Erwin Bernard Neri said the new graduates will carry the same mandate of Task Force Davao since it was created—to secure Davao City.

“They will be deployed in the major entry and exit points of the city to further strengthen our checkpoint operations, since the City has been practicing stricter implementation of checkpoints,” Neri said.

Duterte said two more CAA 2 companies will be deployed at the outskirts of the city to answer “the problem of rebellion” in Davao.

The mayor said the city is finalizing the Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Agila Division for the recruitment and training of the 640 CAA 2 volunteers.

The city is also preparing a budget of around P54 million a year for the salary of these CAA 2 personnel.

“Hopefully this investment in the two CAA 2 companies will result in a more stable peace and order in Davao City, especially in the midtown area and related to our NPA (New People’s Army) problem,” she said.
