Jewelry made for millennials

A few years ago, Chynna Gonzalez wanted to mark a milestone with a piece of jewelry. The problem, however, was that she didn’t find anything that suited her style and sensibilities; she found many designs too bold and ostentatious.

MILLENNIAL DESIGNER. Chynna Gonzalez’s (center) desire to own fine jewelry pieces that suit her style and sensibilities led her to establish her own label, Adornata.

With her experience in jewelry design, thanks to her grandmother, Gonzalez instead created the piece she was looking for. She then established her brand Adornata in 2016 when she finally decided to sell her creations.

“The big idea behind Adornata is to be a bridge between fashion and fine jewelry,” explains Gonzalez. “Pieces are more fun and fashion-forward, but rendered in solid gold. They’re beautiful, but also practical because you can wear them every day.”

Gonzalez’s jewelry line focuses on elegance that suits its niche crowd. And much like the multi-hyphenate-obsessed millennial generation, Adornata’s pieces are versatile and can be worn in different ways—for example, a pair of dangling earrings can be transformed into a pair of stud earrings.

“I really wanted to incorporate a multi-wear aspect to my designs, something that spoke to the practical sensibilities of every woman,” says Gonzalez.

She adds, “I felt that if I made them versatile and practical, despite them being innately luxurious, it would make clients, like me, feel less guilty because I can maximize its use.”

Adornata jewelry pieces range from P25,000 to P100,000.

“I believe fine jewelry doesn’t belong in a vault; you need to wear them and they should complement your lifestyle.”

All pieces are made of solid gold to ensure the durability and material integrity of the jewelry. Gonzalez spruces up her designs with an array of varicolored precious stones.

“The beauty of colored gems is that I source them in small batches, and are not all the same,” she shares.

With her heavy-handed use of gems, most of Adornata’s pieces are one-offs. “Every Adornata piece is unique, from material to design,” says Gonzalez.

“What sets me apart from the rest is being a millennial, first generation fine jewelry designer; I understand the needs of the new woman and their equal value for style and luxury,” she enthuses.

The label’s new collection, Redentore, is inspired by the Festa del Redentore, an event in Venice held on the Feast of the Most Holy Redeemer to give thanks for the end of the 1576 plague. It is celebrated with an hour-long fireworks display—an exciting explosion of color which Gonzalez’s pieces capture.
