Piano prodigy Jenna Salliman will play the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Claude Debussy, and other great classical composers in her premier recital on Oct. 7.

Jenna Salliman will hold her premier recital at the University of the Philippines College of Statistics on Oct. 7.

The recital will be held at the auditorium of the University of the Philippines College of Statistics in Quezon City, at 4:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The program will include two works by Bach: Prelude and Fugue in C-sharp major BWV 848 and Prelude and Fugue in F major BWV 856. It will be followed by Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 6 in F major Op. 10 No. 2, Debussy’s L’Isle Joyeuse, Francisco Santiago’s Souvenir de Filipinas, and Charles Camille Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor Op. 23.

The daughter of Basilan Governor Jim Hataman Salliman and wife Annie started studying the piano at age 6 when her parents bought a new Yamaha Upright. She was in the 9th grade at the Philippine Science High School when she decided she wanted to undertake more studies in piano and be a classical pianist.

Her current mentor is Anthony Say, a faculty member of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music. He is currently the president of the Piano Teachers Guild of the Philippines.

Salliman practices the piano using her new baby grand after school hours. She is currently a freshman student majoring in Statistics at the UP College of Statistics.

The 18-year-old pianist will be joined by Mary Anne Espina who will perform as collaborating artist. Espina is one of the active classical musicians in the country. As a solo performer, she has given a number of solo recitals and was a featured musician in the Filipino Artists Series of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. She has also been a featured soloist for the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, The Manila Symphony Orchestra, The FILHARMONIKA, and The UST Orchestra.
