The Philippine unit of Southeast Asia’s largest budget airline plans to expand its operations to China to meet the increasing demand, the Civil Aeronautics Board said Tuesday.

Philippines Air Asia in a filing with the CAB sought allocation of entitlements to China under the Asean-China Air Transport Agreement.

The CAB will hear the petition of PAA on October 3.

“Parties/airlines opposed to the granting of this application must file their written opposition on or before [October 3],” CAB said.

“Failure on the part of any interested party to file their opposition on time shall be construed as a waiver of their right to be heard and the CAB shall proceed to hear and decide the application on its merits,” it added.

PAA flies to Shenzhen, Hangzhou, and Shanghai in China from Cebu and Shanghai and Guangzhou from Manila.

Data from Tourism Department showed Chinese visitors to the Philippines rose 12.7 percent to 559,289 in the first five months of the year from 203,400 year-on-year.
