The country’s two largest telecommunications companies have extended the validity of prepaid loads for one year.
PLDT Inc.’s Smart Communications Inc. and Globe Telecom Inc.’s prepaid loads below P300 on July will have a validity period of one year.
This includes all load denominations of Smart Prepaid, Smart Bro, TNT, Sun Prepaid, Sun Broadband Wireless Prepaid, Smart Link, Smart Marino, PLDT Prepaid Landline Plus and PLDT Home.
“We thank the government for giving us enough time to perfect this implementation and ensure the best possible experience for our customers,” PLDT said.
Globe added that prepaid load, including those with denominations below P300, would carry a one-year expiration period.
The industry since January 6 has implemented a one-year validity period for prepaid loads P300 and above.
The development completes the compliance of PLDT and Globe with Memorandum Circular No. 05-12-2017 issued jointly by the National Telecommunications Commission, Department of Information and Communications Technology and the Department of Trade and Industry.
“We are grateful to the NTC, DICT, and DTI for giving us ample time to prepare for the smooth and seamless implementation of the extension of the expiration period across all denominations,” Globe said.
The country’s mobile market has a total industry subscriber identification module base of over 118 million, with an industry penetration rate of 112 percent in 2017.
Globe had a SIM base of 60.7 million or about 51 percent of the market, while PLDT had 58.29 million.
