ABS-CBN Corp. on Thursday announced the nationwide rollout of its mobile digital television device to accelerate the digital migration in support of the government’s thrust to switch off the analog transmission.

ABS-CBN TVplus Go is the on-the-go version of the TVplus box and turns Android smartphones into a “handheld TV” without consuming mobile data by acting as a digital TV broadcast receiver.

ABS-CBN said it was targeting Filipino commuters who have no time to catch their favorite ABS-CBN shows and channels at home.

ABS-CBN TVplus Go works in areas where digital TV signal is available, including Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Batangas, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Baguio City, Cavite, Laguna, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Metro Cebu, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City. It is available for only P799.

TVplus Go is simple and easy to use. It works with USB-OTG Android phones with a micro USB port (type-C port may function using a micro USB-OTG adaptor with data support) and a few other base specifications, such as  Android 5.0 operating system or higher, 1GB RAM or higher and a dual-core processor or higher.

ABS-CBN TVplus Go follows the success of ABS-CBN’s innovations”•ABS-CBN TVplus, which made the company the country’s pioneer in digital terrestrial television when it was launched in 2015.

ABS-CBN Tvplus already sold more than 8 million boxes as of July 2019.  Meanwhile, iWant, a streaming app for Filipino movies and TV shows launched last year was downloaded 11.3 million times.

ABS-CBN’s iWant is the first Filipino streaming service to sign the ASEAN Subscription Video-on-Demand Industry Content Code, joining other platforms in the region such as Netflix, HOOQ, iflix, Malaysia’s tonton, Astro and dimsum, and Thailand’s DOONEE.

By signing the Content Code, iWant reinforces its commitment to keeping its content authentic, free from hate speech, hate crimes, pornography and other forms of inappropriate content.

“We are honored and thrilled to unite with other distinguished streaming platforms in the region in this pledge to create and produce socially responsible content, which has always been the top priority of iWant as the Philippines’ first local streaming platform,” said iWant head Elaine Uy-Casipit.

“Aside from providing high-quality entertainment that resonates with Filipinos, we want to make sure that our users are able to access and watch video content that matches the viewing preferences of every member of the family,” she said.

The Content Code, developed in 2017 and officially released in June 2018, is a self-regulatory framework that aims to ensure the commitment of online streaming services in the ASEAN region to uphold the interests of their users by providing content that does not infringe copyright and does not promote pornography, violence, terrorism and hate crimes.

It also aims to protect minors from accessing age-inappropriate and sensitive content, empowers users and their families to choose video content that suits their needs, interests, passions, and values and serves to distinguish legitimate services from pirate sites.
