Cement importers expressed their full support to the policy of the Trade Department against the entry of substandard cement in the country, saying these products are bad for business and could negatively affect the infrastructure program of the government.
Philippine Cement Importers Association executive director Dani Enriquez said in a statement the group was a staunch supporter of the government’s efforts on consumer protection.
“The PCIA is categorically against importation of substandard cement. In fact, the PCIA has proposed to take an active part in monitoring and enforcement against substandard cement whether imported or locally manufactured,” Enriquez said.
“We do not want substandard cement coming in the country. It is not only bad for business, it is also bad for the infrastructure programs of President Duterte,” he said.
He said PCIA was strongly proposing that imported cement be tested at the port of loading or origin to know whether it was of good quality, and not before it was shipped to the Philippines.
