A group led by Filipino businessman and entrepreneur Martin Lorenzo recently closed a new private equity fund, the Sierra Madre Philippines 1 Fund, with $50 million in committed capital.

Its limited partners include blue chip international development finance institutions, Philippine institutional investors and high-net worth individuals.

Aside from Lorenzo, other members of Sierra Madre senior team are finance veterans Danny Lizares and Alasdair Thomson. “I am very confident in the extensive and impressive private equity investment track record, blue chip fund management experience, deep local knowledge, networking capabilities and proven strategic and operational capability of the fund’s active management,” Lorenzo said.

Sierra Madre is a locally sponsored, locally focused private equity investor that makes growth investments of $5M and above to Philippine small and medium enterprises that have a track record of performance and the potential to become leaders in their chosen market segments.

“We see a lot of growth prospects in the country, and our expectation is that we will invest in around eight to 10 selected SMEs in the next five years,” Lorenzo said.
