The tollway unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. is mulling over the construction of an expressway that will connect the Manila Cavite Expressway to the proposed international airport in Sangley Point, Cavite.
Romulo Quimbo Jr., senior vice president for legal and regulatory affairs of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp., said the feasibility study for a six-kilometer expressway that would connect Cavitex to Rosario and Sangley Airport was ongoing.
“We are still identifying the alignment… We are not yet ready to submit the proposal to the government,” Quimbo said.
MPTC is also the builder and concessionaire of the Cavite Laguna Expressway.
The planned new expressway would connect to the proposed Philippine Global Gateway project worth P1.3 trillion which aims to decongest Ninoy Aquino International Airport and major roads in Metro Manila.
All-Asia Resources and Reclamation Corp., a consortium led by tycoon Henry Sy and the Tieng family, plans to build an international airport, seaport, economic zone and real estate components in Sangely Point.
The new airport would be designed to have a capacity of 90 million passengers and would be completed in five years.
MPTC is currently constructing Segment 10 of the NLEx Harbour Link, a 5.6-km elevated expressway costing P10.5 billion and running from Valenzuela City to C3 in Caloocan City. The project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2017.
The Toll Regulatory Board also issued a conditional notice to proceed with the construction of the C5 Link Expressway, a part of the existing Cavitex network and a P10-billion project spanning 7.6 kilometers to link C-5 Road in Taugig to R-1 (Coastal) Expressway. Construction is expected to start by the first quarter of 2017 upon approval of the final engineering design.
In April 2016, MPTC signed a joint venture agreement with the city of Cebu and the municipality of Cordova to build the P27.9-billion Cebu-Cordova Bridge Project. The 8.25-km bridge project, set to be completed by 2020, will connect Cebu City to Mactan Island via Cordova.
MNTC is also building an elevated expressway to connect the Northern and Southern toll road systems at a cost of P23 billion.
