POCO X6 5G: Xiaomi’s latest midrange all-rounder

AS we’ve witnessed, phones have changed drastically over the years. This holds not only true for its form, but also for the functions that it comes with.

After all, if you were among those born in its early days, mobile phones were just mobile phones – only capable of simple timekeeping, texting, and calls.

Thinking back on it, they were more akin to walkie-talkies than the mini TVs, minicomputers, compact media players, camcorders, or portable gaming consoles they are to us now.

Cut to the present, and it seems like there’s no end to the things that can be built into smartphones – as they’re called now. Almost all models nowadays have the capacity to monitor your health, keep track of the places you’ve been, assist you in driving, and even more outrageous functions.

From among the saturated business of smartphone making, Xiaomi is one of note. The Chinese technology and electronics company is among those pioneering these advancements in the smartphone industry – aggressively coming out with new and innovative ways for you to use and enjoy the company of your phone.

A testament to this is its upcoming release, the POCO X6 5G. It’s the new midrange, all-rounder to beat. At this point in the year, of course.

If that got you curious, let’s work out one by one what exactly makes this phone a great everyday partner and daily driver.

Design and Build Quality

We all know by now that Xiaomi is considered one of the brightest beacons in the budget-friendly block of the smartphone market, and that’s pretty evident with the POCO X6 5G.

The device looks and feels premium, sporting a solid aluminum frame and an elegant glass backing with a high-gloss finish that doesn’t scream ‘inexpensive’ at all.

The only issue was the device’s glass back made it slippery when held. It also wasn’t fingerprint-resistant or smudge-proof, which means you’ll either have to clean it frequently or use the rubber case that comes with it to improve your grip.

Display

Featuring a 6.67-inch Corning Gorilla Glass 5 AMOLED display with a resolution of 1220 x 2712 pixels, the X6 5G is as vibrant and sharp as can be – the colors and details almost popping out of the screen.

The device also boasts a 120hz screen refresh rate ensuring lagless scrolling and smooth touch interactions whether gaming or content streaming.

Also, the X6 5G’s display holds up extremely well regardless of lighting conditions.

Performance & Gaming

Driven by Qualcomm’s 8-core chipset Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 released in September of last year and a whopping 12GB of RAM, the X6 5G performs close to the level of flagship phones currently out in the market.

It doesn’t crumble when multitasking and carries out demanding tasks or applications fluidly.

Packing a massive 512GB storage, heavy data apps or games bear no threat to this device. However, a downside when playing graphic-heavy titles like Genshin Impact at the highest default setting is that a slight but noticeable FPS (frames per second) drop occurs, specifically when running, moving to one place abruptly, and fighting enemies.

Employing Xiaomi’s in-game boosting assistant Game Turbo and gameplay-dedicated app Game Space fixed the issue above but resulted in a bit of battery drain and heating.

Camera

The X6 5G’s camera module is composed of three sensors, specifically a 64-megapixel main camera (wide), an 8-megapixel secondary sensor (ultrawide), and a 2-megapixel sensor (macro).

In well-lit conditions, this triple-camera combo takes mobile photography to a whole new level, providing consistent crisp shots with lively saturation.

Meanwhile, its night mode is also something of a marvel. The camera can take detailed photos in dimly lit environments with little to no quality loss.

Other noteworthy features include the dedicated 64MP resolution, Pro Mode, Long Exposure, and Portrait.

With that said, this smartphone will be a sure hit for those who like to capture their every waking moment.

Battery Life

The POCO X6 5G’s battery holds 5,100 mAh of power and can last a whole day on moderate usage with a lot of juice to spare. But when it does lose power, its 67W fast charging system guarantees that you spend less time by the socket – more time to get on with your day and do more with your device.

Connectivity

True to its name, the POCO X6 5G comes with 5G connectivity – an unmissable feature if you’re someone who wants to future-proof your network experience.

Operating System

The POCO X6 5G will be shipped running Xiaomi’s latest software skin HyperOS out of the box – first introduced in the Xiaomi 14 series.

While its layout and design aesthetic didn’t stray far from MIUI, this latest OS offers more novel features that strengthen privacy and security. On top of that, it gives users more room for customization.

Another noteworthy facet of the HyperOS is its improved RAM management, allowing more apps to run simultaneously without problem.

Verdict

With its 64MP triple camera setup, 5,100 mAh battery, powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, and sleek new OS, the POCO X6 5G is the perfect companion for the demanding Filipino mobile user.

This all-rounder will be able to handle everything you ask of it or throw its way be it photography, streaming, casual to moderate gaming, and more.

And you can rest assured that it’ll always perform with great results.

Price

The POCO X6 5G is expected to retail between P16,000 to P20,000 in the Philippines.
