The year 2024 has been a great one for Philippine sports, highlighted by the outstanding feats of double-gold winner Carlos Yulo and bronze medalists Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas in the Paris Olympic Games.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richard Bachmann is hoping the Philippines’ winning streak continues in 2025, with the government sports agency backing the campaigns of numerous athletes at the international level.
“The year 2024 has been triumphant for the country, inspiring Filipinos and igniting a renewed passion for sports. The collaboration across various sectors resulted in historic achievements, highlighted by the double gold medals by Carlos Yulo and bronze medals of Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas at the Paris 2024 Olympics, alongside the promising performances of our Paralympians,” said Bachmann.
“This 2025 we envision more victories and the realization of a sustainable success for Philippine sports,” Bachmann added.
The agency also organized local meets like the Batang Pinoy 2024 and saw numerous young talents emerge with exceptional performances.
When it was held in Puerto Princesa City, young swimmers like Arvin Taguinota, and the City of Pasig led the way with their strong showing.

“We also successfully channeled the energy of the youth into sports. Our flagship Batang Pinoy 2024 proved to be a success, discovering new talents and sparking fresh aspirations for Philippine sports,” added Bachmann.
The PSC chief believes that the country can further excel globally with the support it provides to the country’s grassroots development program and to elite level competitions as well.
“Our ability to compete internationally further underscores the nation’s potential to become a global sports hub. The Philippines hosted multiple international events, showcasing every Filipino’s passion for excellence on the global stage,” said Bachmann.
With last year’s success, the agency will remain committed in its efforts to support the national athletes reach their world-class potentials in their next journeys towards excellence.
“Despite these successes, we remain committed to further enhancing the welfare of our athletes. Significant improvements to their training facilities are underway to better meet their needs, on and off the field. This year’s packed calendar includes numerous international tournaments, reflecting our readiness to sustain our achievements and strive for even greater goals,” said Bachmann.
With better financial assistance and a stronger program, Bachmann feels that the agency can do more for the athletes, the national sports associations and the promising young athletes.
“We will also continue to expand platforms for youth development by strengthening our linkages with stakeholders nationwide, deepening our collaboration at every level. ” said Bachmann.
