Pegula outlasts Eala in three-set Miami Open semis match

Wildcard entry Alex Eala made it hard for world no. 4 Jessica Pegula in a difficult semifinals round.
 
But experience eventually prevailed as Pegula fought Eala, 7-6(7-3), 5-7, 6-3, to barge into the finals of the 2025 Miami Open Tennis Tournament’s women’s singles finals at the Hard Rock Gardens in Miami Gardens, Florida.
 
“Amazing. I’m just so tired,” said Pegula after enduring a two-hour and 26 minutes long encounter with the 19-year old Eala.
 
Following a three-all deadlock in the third set, Pegula hung on in the last three games, and held serves.
 
The end came for Eala when Pegula unloaded a drop shot, and the Filipina committed a net error off her rival’s crosscourt volley.
