CARLOS Yulo wants his national men’s artistics gymnastics teammates to also achieve his Olympic accomplishments.
“Pangarap ko po makakuha ng gold medal sa Olympics at pangarap din nila iyun,” said Yulo in one-on-one interview with the Manila Standard a week before he returns to France to join swimmer Ernie Gawilan in post-Paris Olympics and Paralympics festivities.
Training with his teammates in the national men’s team will resume by January, once Yulo has rested and recovered his energies from attending numerous commitments, which came his way following his gold medal victories at the Paris Games.
Yulo, whose blessings and rewards have gone beyond an estimated value of a P113 million, has been encouraging his teammates to level up in their preparations for numerous international meets next year.
He believes that his cousin Ivan Cruz is close to following his footsteps after they competed together in the 2023 Southeast Asian Games.
Cruz, who won an individual floor exercise gold in the SEA Games, will remain in the national squad with Jan Timbang, Juancho Miguel Besana and Jhon Santillan.
Yulo leaves on Sept 4. to be with Gawilan in a gathering of Team Toyota athletes.
Toyota has sponsored over 250 Olympic and Paralympic athletes from around the world, with Yulo and Gawilan among them.
“I will celebrate my Paris Olympics medal win with other Olympians from around the world in this gathering,” said Yulo of the festivities happening in the last four days of the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Yulo talked about his return to Paris after receiving a bespoke set of gold bars, as a tribute to his achievements from Cebuana Lhuillier, which has a commitment to honor outstanding Filipino athletes and support Philippine sports.
President and CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier, Cebuana Lhuillier Chairman and Founder, Ambassador Philippe Jones Lhuillier, along with Senior Executive Vice President Philippe Andre Lhuillier personally handed the golden bars to Yulo during rites held on Tuesday afternoon at the company’s offices in Makati City.
