Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has opened up about her breakup with actor Sam Milby, saying the split stemmed from a change in plans after he proposed.
In an interview with seasoned broadcast journalist Karen Davila, Catriona said Sam later realized he was not ready for the level of commitment they believed they were moving toward.
“There was a point in our relationship where I think he just realized that he wasn’t ready to take it to the stage of commitment that we thought we were on ’cause he had proposed,” she said, adding she felt “blindsided” and hurt.
The beauty queen said she tried to make the relationship work but eventually saw Sam’s uncertainty as an answer in itself. Walking away, she said, was difficult, but she felt she needed to choose herself after “trying to adjust” for so long.
Catriona also spoke about wanting a partner who shares her hopes for marriage and a family.
“Ayokong ma-wait around for someone to figure out,” she said.
She said the breakup was painful to navigate publicly and described it as shattering.
Catriona said she went to therapy for two years and leaned on friends and family, adding she now feels healthier and more grounded while remaining hopeful about love.
