Cha Eun-woo says he will take responsibility amid tax evasion claims

Korean superstar Cha Eun-woo finally spoke up after facing allegations of tax evasion and said he will cooperate with any procedures tied to the case.

On Monday, Jan. 26, Eun-woo said in an Instagram post that he was sorry “for causing concern and disappointment” and had reflected on whether he had been “sufficiently rigorous” in fulfilling his duty as a citizen, particularly on tax payments.

Eun-woo, who is currently completing South Korea’s mandatory military service, also addressed speculation that his enlistment was meant to avoid scrutiny. He said he enlisted in July 2025 because he could no longer delay service and was unable to complete tax investigation procedures before reporting for duty.

“I will faithfully participate in the tax-related procedures that will proceed in the future,” he said, adding that he would accept the final decision of authorities and “take full responsibility accordingly.”

Reports have alleged Eun-woo, whose real name is Lee Dong-min, evaded about 20 billion won (around ₱800 million) through a paper company linked to his mother. Some advertisers have reportedly pulled campaigns featuring him.

Eun-woo is a member of Korean boy group Astro and later made his acting debut in the film “My Brilliant Life.” He is also known for his roles in K-dramas, including “My ID is Gangnam Beauty” and “True Beauty.”
