Chavit Singson to meet Miss Universe Organization for possible franchise acquisition

Former Ilocos Sur governor and businessman Luis “Chavit” Singson is set to meet members of the press next week to discuss a possible buyout of the Miss Universe pageant.

Singson said representatives of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) are expected to visit Manila next month for discussions and negotiations on the potential acquisition of the franchise.

“They’re flying to Manila next month to discuss the possible buyout,” Singson’s publicist told Manila Standard Entertainment.

Singson cited recent issues involving the pageant in Thailand and Mexico as among the reasons he is considering the purchase. He said he has instructed his daughter to reach out to the Miss Universe Organization about a possible deal.

The Miss Universe 2025 pageant, held in Bangkok, Thailand, in November, was marred by several controversies from pre-pageant events through the post-coronation period, including allegations of rigged results.

Miss Universe Organization president Raul Rocha has issued multiple statements on social media addressing some of the issues raised.

The pageant crowned Mexico’s Fatima Bosch as Miss Universe 2025. Philippine representative Ahtisa Manalo finished as third runner-up.

In previous interviews, Singson — dubbed “Mister Universe” by pageant fans — said MUO had considered the Manila 2016 staging of the annual pageant as one of the best editions in recent years.

Singson acknowledged that hosting or acquiring the pageant may not be highly profitable for him but said the exposure would benefit the country.

“I know malulugi ako ng kaunti (I might incur a small loss), but it’s a nice exposure for the country,” Singson told Manila Standard in a previous interview.
