‘Heated Rivalry’ creators eye standalone episode amid growing popularity

Hit boys’ love (BL) series “Heated Rivalry” might be returning sooner than expected as executives are planning to release a bonus episode ahead of its already confirmed second season.

Executives from Crave Canada said a standalone special episode is under consideration as the series’ popularity continues to grow. The potential episode would feature lead actors Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie reprising their roles as rival hockey stars Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, respectively.

The second season of “Heated Rivalry” has been officially greenlit by Crave and parent company Bell Media, along with author Rachel Reid and showrunner Jacob Tierney. Tierney has cautioned, however, that the next full season may not be released until 2027.

Bell Media vice president Justin Stockman said in an interview that the idea of a bonus episode depends on feasibility.

“If Jacob can find a way to make the source material work in a way that gets us something sooner or something special, I’m sure he will,” Stockman said, adding that the creative process should not be rushed.

If produced, the episode would air between Seasons 1 and 2.

Tierney emphasized that no decision has been finalized, saying he remains focused on delivering a strong second season.

“Heated Rivalry” is based on Reid’s novel series “Game Changer.”
