The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board rated and classified 171,972 materials in 2025 as part of its efforts to promote responsible viewing amid a growing digital media landscape.
The classified materials included 127,704 television programs, 40,505 TV plugs and trailers, 1,695 publicity materials, 10 optical media materials, 1,380 movie trailers, and 671 films. Of the films, 311 were produced locally, and 360 were foreign titles.
Among the films, 359 received a PG (Parental Guidance) rating, suitable for children under 13 when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Forty-eight films were rated G (General Audience), 142 were rated R-13, 98 R-16, 28 R-18, and three received an X rating, deemed not suitable for public exhibition.
The Board reported a 13.34 percent increase in films classified, from 592 in 2024, and a 151.37 percent surge in movie trailers screened in cinemas, on television, and in other venues, rising from 549 the previous year.
“These figures signal an encouraging indication of renewed activity and momentum within the film industry,” MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto said.
Sotto said the numbers underscore the board’s evolving role in protecting viewers, particularly children, while supporting the creative industry.
“The volume of content submitted and classified in 2025 reflects both the vibrancy of the entertainment industry and the growing responsibility of the MTRCB,” she said. “As more content reaches Filipino homes, our duty to guide audiences through clear and appropriate classification becomes even more important.”
