A heartbreak hook that won’t let go

Luke Chiang’s new single, “say that!,” wraps a breakup story in glossy indie-pop. It is bright on the surface and tense underneath.

The Taiwanese-American singer-songwriter released the track as the final single ahead of his debut full-length album, expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Built around a clean, sticky melody, the song leans into smooth R&B and electronic harmonies. It captures the feeling of leaving someone you still love, then replaying every word you never said.

“It’s about regretting words unsaid after leaving somebody you’re still in love with—wishing they knew there were times you genuinely wanted to spend the rest of your lives together despite walking away in the end,” Luke said.

The release caps a steady run following Luke’s return after a two-year vocal hiatus. His earlier singles “terrible4u” and “what can i do?” have picked up viral momentum and are averaging a combined 750,000 weekly streams on Spotify.

Luke has built much of his strongest listenership in Southeast Asia. His top listener locations include Indonesia at No. 2 and the Philippines at No. 3, alongside Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, and Singapore.

Spotify currently lists Luke at about 2.6 million monthly listeners, a sign of a fanbase that has grown well beyond a single release.

With the debut album due in early 2026 and set to include performances from HILLARI, Bren Joy, Jesse Barrera, and Albert Posis, “say that!” feels like his last stop before the full rollout.
