CinePanalo turns up the volume with Stage Post partnership

In film production, sound is often the unseen force that decides whether a scene lingers or slips away unnoticed. Viewers may tolerate uneven visuals or a wandering storyline, but once the audio falters, the spell is broken.

Puregold CinePanalo appears keenly aware of this reality, and in its third run, the film festival is sharpening its focus on how Filipino stories are heard, not just seen.

As it continues its effort to produce world-class local films, CinePanalo has announced a collaboration with Stage Post Audio and Music Productions Inc., a partnership aimed at giving this year’s entries a more unified and professional approach to audio quality. The move aligns the festival with practices commonly observed on the international stage, where sound design is treated as storytelling, not an afterthought.

Through the partnership, Stage Post will share its expertise and resources with both emerging and established filmmakers, helping them reach professional-level audio standards and create films with greater clarity, emotion, and cinematic depth.

As an official festival partner, Stage Post says it looks forward to helping CinePanalo filmmakers draw out the full emotional weight of their stories through sound.

Managing director Paulo Almaden notes that the filmmakers are telling “powerful, very human stories,” and that the company’s goal is to ensure audiences experience those works with the depth and clarity intended. The collaboration, he adds, is also a chance to work with seasoned storytellers while championing new voices.

Support will come in tangible form. Stage Post is offering a co-production grant that includes complete audio post-production services for one full-length film and one student short.

The grant will cover major creative roles, including a re-recording mixer, sound designer, dialogue editor, foley and effects artist, and ADR specialist. As a co-producer on the selected projects, Stage Post will provide these services, exclusive of miscellaneous costs.

All CinePanalo filmmakers will also be granted an exclusive 50 percent discount on audio post-production services if they choose Stage Post as their sound partner.

Beyond production support, Stage Post is also aiming to deepen filmmakers’ understanding of audio craftsmanship. To do this, it will launch Para sa Panalong Tunog: Audio Post Essentials, a workshop series designed to standardize audio deliverables across all CinePanalo films and highlight the role of sound and music in cinema.

The program will feature a mix of online and face-to-face sessions covering topics such as storytelling through music, sound design for surround formats, dialogue editing, foley techniques, mixing, and post-production workflow management. A guided tour of Stage Post’s facilities, an orientation on international audio standards, and a special session with an invited industry expert will complete the experience.

All full-length and student short filmmakers are invited to attend the workshops, with each film entitled to two slots. Priority will be given to student short film finalists and those availing of the co-production grant or the 50 percent discount.

The 2026 Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival will run at Gateway Cineplex 18 and select Ayala Cinemas.
